Advocate. Storyteller. Voice for the People.

I'm Cat Porterfield — a print journalist, creator, fighter, and proud product of the promise of America we were all taught about in eighth-grade civics class.

Over the course of my career, I've led newsrooms, managed newspapers, edited books, built podcasts and media products, written and performed music, launched businesses, and helped communities find their voice when others tried to silence them.

I didn't just cover the news — I built it, edited it, fought for it, and kept it alive when others said it couldn't survive.

I’ve won awards for excellence in journalism, earned a reputation for building trust where others burned bridges, and served as a fierce advocate for truth — when it was inconvenient for those in power, it often became dangerous for me. I loved that part.

But I also know what it feels like when hard work doesn't always mean financial security.

I know how quickly opportunity can be ripped away when systems are designed to serve the few, not the many.

And I know the strength it takes to build, rebuild, and rebuild again — without ever losing sight of the bigger fight.

I grew up knowing that power without accountability is dangerous.

And that personal freedom should only end the moment it harms someone else.

I'm running because I believe dignity, privacy, fairness, and true freedom aren't relics of the past. They are promises worth fighting for — and delivering on.

This campaign isn't about power.

It’s about trust.

It’s about honoring the promises that too many have forgotten.

They had their turn. Now it’s ours.

I’m not here to play politics.

I’m here to fight for the people who’ve been forgotten — the families working hard, playing by the rules, and still getting left behind.

Because I know what it’s like to fight to keep a roof over your head. To juggle bills. To chase dreams bigger than the world sometimes thinks you deserve. And to never give up anyway.

I'm running to build the Virginia we were promised — a Virginia where:

  • Working families can afford to live, thrive, and DREAM without fear.

  • Public schools are strong, respected, and fully funded — not politicized.

  • Mental health care is treated like health care — urgent, essential, and dignified.

  • Our democracy works for everyone — not just the wealthy few who already have a seat at the table.

Leadership isn’t about grandstanding.
It’s about showing up. It’s about telling the truth even when it’s hard. It’s about standing your ground when the winds are against you — and never forgetting who you serve.

If you're tired of politics as usual…
If you’re ready for a leader who can’t be bought, won't be bullied, and will never forget where she came from —

Then let’s fight together.
